When Megan stepped into our Edgewater, MD studio, it was more than just a boudoir session—it was a moment of pause, empowerment, and transformation. Every click of the shutter honored her vulnerability, her strength, and her decision to preserve a piece of herself before stepping into a life-changing chapter.
Megan came to her session with a powerful intention: to capture her body as it is, before the visible markers of her battle with breast cancer begin. Her story isn't just one of survival—it’s a reminder of how photography can become a living record of resilience.
“I wanted to capture what my body looks like before starting chemo for breast cancer, which will be followed by surgery (probably a mastectomy) in a few months. Also ladies, if your breasts are labeled ‘dense’, insist on an ultrasound and/or MRI in addition to your regular mammograms.”
This was Megan’s call to action—for herself, and for every woman who might need to hear it. Her words carried purpose, and her session became more than art—it became advocacy.
A Safe, Empowering Space
The boudoir studio in Edgewater was intentionally designed to feel intimate, safe, and soul-nourishing. With light flooding the space and soft textures enveloping her, Megan embraced her body in its present form—raw, radiant, and fully hers. We created a flow that was gentle yet affirming, allowing her to feel celebrated, not exposed.
The Power of Preservation
For many women, boudoir is about feeling sexy, seen, and self-loved. For Megan, it was all that—but also a deeply personal act of remembrance. Cancer will change her, yes—but she is the one writing the narrative.
This session captured her on her terms, in her body, at her moment. She will carry these images as a testament to her power, her beauty, and her unwavering spirit. And through sharing her story, she’s made a lasting impact on others walking a similar path.
A Nod to Empowerment Through Fantasy
One of our favorite touches during this session was her nod to the iconic Slave Leia costume—an outfit that, while rooted in pop culture, has become a symbol of reclaiming strength, sensuality, and self-expression. Boudoir, much like cosplay, allows you to embody different facets of yourself: bold, unapologetic, and powerful. This subtle reference added a layer of personal storytelling to her session that made it even more unforgettable.
A Note to the Women Reading This
Megan’s words aren’t just part of her story—they’re for you too. If you’ve been told you have dense breast tissue, advocate fiercely. Ask the questions. Demand the imaging. Your body, your health, your future—they are worth fighting for.
And when you're ready to celebrate your body—at any stage, in any form—our doors in Edgewater are always open.
